Greyhound Rescue named Finalist in national animal Rescue Awards

Greyhound Rescue has won a spot as an ‘Outstanding Rescue Group’[1] Finalist in the Jetpets Companion Animal Rescue Awards 2019.

These awards showcase excellence and innovation in rescue, with more than 1,000 entries from across the nation.

Cathy BeerJetpets Rescue Awards founder, said "finalists like Greyhound Rescue demonstrated best practice in animal care." They're also operating in such a way to ensure the sustainability of their organisation for the future,” she said.

She said the winner in each award category will be announced on Thursday 12th September at 6pm via live streaming at www.facebook.com/rescueawards

GR Founders, Janet & Peter Flann

GR Chair Nat Panzarino said it was all about the volunteers, or 'vollies' as they are affectionately known, and the generosity of GR’s supporters.

“This is well-deserved recognition for the incredible work done by GR’s dedicated team of volunteers," she said.

"It's also great credit to the founders of Greyhound Rescue, Janet and Peter Flann, who recently retired from their full-time efforts for some well-earned rest."

Nat said outstanding submissions don't happen by chance.

Margot & "kennel kid" Zephyr, still
looking for his furever home after 1 year!
"Our volunteer Margot Undercliffe wrote the submission. It took 25 hours of her time. Margot is also a volunteer at our kennels near Camden," she said.

Nat said GR's kennel volunteers deserve the special affection they get from the hounds.

"Whether it's hot, cold or raining, our kennel volunteers turn up to feed, walk and love our 'kennel kids'," she said.

"Most importantly, the vollies clean kennel runs and poop-scoop, plus do loads of washing and drying, but they always say Houndie love makes it worthwhile."

Nat said some are weekly volunteers, while others come once a month: "Every shift done makes a difference.

The morning shift is 8-11am, while afternoons are 2-5pm, seven days a week."
